Beanstalk Debuts ‘Lifestyle Merchandise’ Line For T-Bird
The Beanstalk Group (asi/155460) recently announced it would be offering a line of “lifestyle merchandise” for its client, Ford Motor Co., beginning with a selection of retro, 50s-inspired clock radios bearing the logo of the infamous Thunderbird sports coup, which was itself re-launched a couple of years ago with its own distinctive retro

styling. Other items planned include apparel, kitchenware and consumer electronics. Creative distributors might see an opportunity here to pitch similar items for high-profile sports car nameplates like Chevy’s Corvette, Mazda’s Miata or Pontiac ’s much-awaited entry, the Solstice, due next year.

Premium 2004 Expo Brings 60 Exhibitors to Dubai
Billed as the only event of its kind in the region, Premium 2004 will bring more than 60 specialized companies from 14 countries to the Dubai Trade Centre September 13-15 to display electronic notebooks, cameras, leather goods, pens, bags, medallions, crystal-ware, office accessories, traditional jewelry and a host of other products. Justin Butrus, executive director of Channels Company, which organized the exhibition, says that “promotional presents and incentives are the best marketing methods adopted by companies to guarantee the loyalty of their clients, to attract new customers and to promote their products and encourage consumers to buy them, especially in light of the development of purchasing awareness in the region.” How’s that for spreading the industry’s message?

Talking Pizzas? Well, Sort Of
Coming to this industry soon: Two unique food embossing/imprinting inventions called the “Roller” and the “Stamper,” developed by a Nesconset, NY-based firm called Gourmet Impression LLC. Just about any establishment that sells, serves, or delivers foods can now also sell food advertising space – messages like “Super Bowl Sunday,” “Happy Birthday,” or “Congratulations” can be written around the crust of a pizza, for example. Gourmet Impression’s CEO, Rich Errera, says that the firm has sent the word out to everyone from Disney to Costco to the Vatican, as well as hotels, bakers, restaurants and caterers. Give you any ideas?

Coach Sales Up
Coach Inc. (asi/45518) reports that its fiscal fourth-quarter profit more than doubled, mainly due to an upsurge in the popularity of brightly-colored handbags and accessories. Coach reported net income of $65.7 million for the quarter ended July 3 against $29.9 million a year earlier. That’s representative of $338.1 million in sales vs. $231.5 in 2003, a 46% jump. Granted, the vast bulk of this is retail sales, but it could also indicate what’s coming to the promo product arena, and that sales - at least those that are retail influenced - may be up there as well.

Bags & Logos – Hot Pairing
And speaking of handbags, the New York Times reports that as far as logoed handbags - and totebags, too – go this year, the hottest fad remains status (read: designer) logos. And the larger the better. The current favorite is the double-C design of designer Coco Channel. A Times “showcase” illustrated no fewer than 22 photos of women carrying Channel-emblazoned bags on the streets of Manhattan in a given day or two. And we’re not talking subtle, either; the logos are huge, averaging between six and eight inches. Could be a trend to hook into.
